Big fat bird

Big fat bird

When I was taking my little girl across the road to the school bus stop, I spotted a big fat bird in the tree that was watching me: A Kererū.

For our non-NZ readers: The kererū is a large bird with irridescent green and bronze feathers on its head and a smart white vest. The noisy beat of its wings is a distinctive sound in our forests. (https://www.doc.govt.nz/nature/native-animals/birds/birds-a-z/nz-pigeon-kereru/)

While not threatened, it’s always cool to watch them. And you wonder how the cute but big fat bird can actually fly. The bumble bee syndrome comes to mind.
